Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has submitted plans to add apartments, hotel rooms and other assets as part of a major redevelopment of the Westfield Montgomery mall, in Bethesda, Md.
The company is seeking approval from the local planning authority for a four-phase, multiyear project at the 59-acre property, according to Bethesda Magazine, which cites some application documents.
The first phase would entail demolition of a Sears store, and its replacement with some 213,000 square feet of ground-level retail and restaurants, plus a five-story building containing nearly 400 apartments.
A second phase would see the construction of a 150,000-square-foot fitness center, swimming pool and parking garage. The third phase would involve a seven-story, 240-unit apartment building plus some retail, with the final phase to comprise a 12-floor building containing a 261-room hotel and residential space.
