Google to open first physical store in Chicago: Report

August 17, 2018

After years of testing pop-up stores, Google is finally ready to launch its first full-time physical store.

Google tested a pop-up shop in New York City's SoHo neighborhood in October 2016. The shop let people try out new Google products such as Daydream View, Google Home and the Pixel phone

The online giant is planning a two-level store in Chicago’s Fulton Market district, according to the Chicago Tribune. Google is close to finalizing a lease for nearly 14,000 square feet on the first and second floors of several connected, two-story brick buildings owned by Newcastle, which acquired the buildings in 2016.

Google's Midwest headquarters is only a few blocks away from the site, which was recently transformed from a meatpacking and food-warehouse district into a trendy hub for dining, for such retailers as Anthropologie and Lululemon, and for some hotels: namely, Ace, Nobu and the Soho House.
