Ebay sets up shop in Westfield malls

December 17, 2015

eBay is moving into Westfield malls this holiday season to sign up more sellers for its online marketplace. Last year, eBay saw a spike in both new sellers and new listings in the days after Christmas, peaking the first Sunday in January, says Vincent Payen, head of consumer selling at eBay. So this year the company is setting up temporary shops at Westfield properties in Chicago, Paramus, N.J., and San Francisco that will allow shoppers to post unwanted holiday gifts for resale on December 26 and 27. Another six Westfield malls will have ebay drop boxes where customers can mail items.

“We have a unique opportunity to extend the season by helping holiday wishes come true even after Christmas,” Payen said. “We’ve made it easy to sell in-person, online, on the eBay app or with the eBay valet service over Boxing Day weekend. Whether it was a designer sweater that didn’t fit or an older tablet that has been replaced by a new one, there is always a buyer among our global community of 159 million for whom it will be perfect.”

About 79 percent of the merchandise sold on eBay is new, according to the firm. And the site currently has 159 million active buyers.
