Destination Maternity to trim store count

November 7, 2018

Destination Maternity Corp. will close 117 stores by year-end and up to 67 additional stores next year.

The closings are among a range of measures the maternity apparel chain is taking in a multiyear plan to boost performance, according to a press release. The company says it expects to save about $2.5 million from lease renewal negotiations this year.

The company operates nearly 500 stores across the U.S. and in Canada and Puerto Rico, under the Destination Maternity, Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod banners, plus an additional 600-plus spots inside department stores.

Destination Maternity Corp. says it intends to boost its online sales to about 42 percent of its total sales by 2022, according to Retail Dive.
