Government Relations volunteers are passionate about state and local legislative and regulatory policy that affects the retail real estate industry. Some of the issues facing our industry include tax reform, e-fairness legislation, ADA lawsuit reform, and regulatory reform.

The role of Government Relations Committees includes:

  • Acting as a point of contact for state and local government relations activities, legislative issues, and policy news.
  • Identifying legislative priorities and advocating on behalf of the retail real estate industry.
  • Educating other ICSC members about policy implications, brainstorming strategic policy responses, and building relationships with key policy makers and industry leaders.

P3 efforts generate a greater understanding of the positive economic effect the shopping center industry has on communities. Private and public sector members work in tandem to explore retail development opportunities and build positive relationships between private and public sector members.

The role of P3 Retail volunteers includes:

  • Networking between local public officials and private industry members for deal making and relationship building (non-lobbying).
  • Engaging in open dialogue on emerging issues affecting the industry and the quality of life in local communities.
  • Sharing ideas and best practices that enhance communities.
  • Advancing public-private partnerships.

The retail landscape changes constantly and retail volunteers work to stay abreast of evolving industry trends. Retail volunteers must work for a retailer so they can provide insights that better address the needs of our retail community.

The role of Retail volunteers includes:

  • Monitoring retail activity within your state/province.
  • Acting as the voice of the retail community and advancing its unique interests.
  • Ensuring all major retail categories are represented with more retailer-focused conference content, networking, and education events.

The Next Generation program is grounded in the concept of members supporting members. Next Generation volunteers bring retail real estate professionals together in a local, relaxed setting in which to interact with peers, build new relationships, and progress in their careers.

The role of Next Generation volunteers includes:

  • Promoting leadership development through educational forums, networking events, and one-on-one mentoring.
  • Serve as the voice of the future of the industry by advocating on behalf of up-and-coming industry professionals.
  • Developing careers and building relationships within the industry by identifying mentorship opportunities for Next Generation professionals.

Operations volunteers work with the ICSC team and program planning committees to manage the content and number of programs in their state or region. They represent the operations, management, leasing, and marketing sectors of the retail real estate industry.

The role of the Operations volunteers includes:

  • Collaborating with ICSC members and the ICSC team to develop meaningful meeting content.
  • Promoting ICSC education and industry certification activities.

The Ambassador Program is a platform for ICSC’s most experienced volunteers across North America to provide leadership and support to the volunteer leadership community and the broader ICSC membership.

The role of Ambassadors includes:

  • Provide guidance and support to state/provincial and local volunteer leadership to assist with succession planning and nominations
  • Engage in outreach to new ICSC members
  • Represent ICSC at colleges and universities
  • Facilitate new member and first-timer orientations at various ICSC Deal Making events
  • Mentor ICSC student members
