China's Avid Outlet Shoppers
Chinese tourists love visiting outlet centers, and working to attract these brand-hungry shoppers pays off big time. VRN talks with marketing directors who understand the art and science of making Asian shoppers comfortable and happy, plus we give you a snapshot of their spending and shopping habits.


Planned Centers? Outlet Gold Rush?
With 47 planned outlet centers totaling more than 18.6 million sf, the latest list is more entrepreneurial than the industry has seen in a long while. Centers are planned for 35 markets - eight of which are site fights. VRN focuses on 10 planned centers that have joined the list since August.

Andrew Marc's Outlet Edge
Starting with five Andrew Marc stores, parent company G-III Apparel Group hopes to reach international shoppers for the brand. G-III has taken another of its brands, the trendy Black Rivet, into 44 Wilsons Leather Outlets to add a little spice.

2011 Fall Outlet Convention Recap
In one of the richest fall programs ever, the Fall Outlet Leasing and Marketing Convention held in September in Secaucus, N.J., was a busy two days for more than 300 attendees. Highlights included:

  • Richard Latella's presentation on how outlets are positioned in the current economy

  • A case study on the transformation of an aging shopping mall in Paramus, N.J., into the Outlets at Bergen Town Center
  • ICSC president Michael P. Kercheval's keynote speech that called outlets a shining light in a dim economy
  • Anchor tenants Off 5th, Bloomies and Nike discussed their expansion strategies
  • Famous Footwear, Children's Place, Chico's, Under Armour, Guess, Off 5th and VF were candid about their hot buttons with developers
  • Outlet marketers roll out 10 opportunities for retailers
