ORCAs, Hall of Fame
More than 300 attendees and 64 exhibitors attending the 2011 VRN Fall Outlet Leasing and Marketing Convention in September were able to witness seven tenants receive Outlet Retail Chain Awards in six categories and three outlet veterans inducted into the Outlet Hall of Fame. This year 72 companies were nominated for the awards:

    Michael Kors
  • Best Visual Merchandising:
    Cole Haan and Nike Factory Stores
  • Best Value Equation:
    Carter’s Outlets
  • Best Marketing Program:

    Bloomingdale’s Outlet


Outlet Hall of Fame
Outlet retailing may be multigenerational, but it’s an industry that remembers its founders and leaders. This year saw the addition of three more outlet veterans whose leadership and commitment have lead to outlet retailing success.


Up Front
Simon will begin expanding four of its most productive Premium Outlet centers in 2012; The first round of tenants has been announced for Galveston Premium Outlets; Paragon Outlet Partners breaks ground, announces 61 tenants for Livermore; portions of Belz Outlets in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., are sold for $4.1 million.

Consumer Snapshots
The most eco-active people are wealthy, healthy and well-educated and they are the top spenders in all retail categories; cosmetics are posting healthy upticks in sales despite the gloomy economy and drooping confidence levels; consumers’ hormonal quotient can help predict favorite textures, flavors, smells, shapes and sounds.

Development Briefs
The Block at Orange has been rebranded as The Outlets at Orange; OTB Destination and Century Development were lead sponsors for the Midwest’s largest fashion event, Omaha Fashion Week; Sawgrass Mills now offers even more: an in-mall bag storage and shipping program for shoppers; Woodburn Company Stores adds two electric vehicle charging stations.

Susan M. Reich joins The Was Group as vice president; Thomas E. McDonough has been promoted to COO at Tanger Factory Outlet Centers; plus loads of leasing news.
