Yearend growth
Yearend proves popular with outlet-center developers. Long Island, N.Y.'s newest retail center - Tanger Outlets at The Arches in Deer Park - has a blowout grand opening on Oct. 23, overcoming the weak economy, heavy traffic, wet weather and huge crowds. And Chelsea Property Group opens the 90,000-sf expansion of its busy Orlando Premium Outlets center, while Prime Retail expands Prime Outlets-St. Augustine (Fla.).

News Up Front
Atlanta-based Cousins Properties Inc. is onboard as a partner in The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay, Texas, slated to open in Spring of 2010; new site or developer discussed for Preferred Outlets at Rockford (Ill.); two of Tanger Factory Outlets Centers' planned projects in Sunbelt states won't be built, at least not for now; and despite the gloomy economy, sales for The Northwest Outlets - which includes projects in Anderson, Calif., Tracy, Calif., and Bend, Ore. - hold their own.

Single-store wonder
Principals of luxury shoemaker Giuseppe Zanotti Design think their patience paid off in unveiling their first, and probably only, American outlet store. The Woodbury Common Premium Outlets store in Central Valley, N.Y., is positioned near fellow Italian brands Gucci and Prada.

Financials report card
Simon Propertiy Group, which owns outletcenter developer Chelsea Property Group, and Tanger Factory Outlet Centers report their third-quarter sales; NAACO worries about the coming year for Le Gourmet Chef and Kitchen Collection.

Book review
A new book, "Retail Business Kit for Dummies," offers info of interest to outletchain executives, including seven tips for boosting sales.

Marketing to Fashionistas
Prime Retail threw a party for the fashionistas in San Marcos, Texas, and managed to raise $7,000 for a local charity at the same time. The event, LUXE 2008, was an evening of designer shopping, song and charity, with proceeds going to the San Antonio Opera.
