Three outlet centers to open this month

Three outlet centers are on the docket for grand openings in October, two in Canada and one in California. First up is Tanger Outlet Center Ottawa in Kanata, Ont., a 293,000-sf center co-developed with RioCan REIT, set to open October 16. Alabama developer taps Avison Young, Simkin

Daniel Corporation, developer of The Outlet Shops of Grand River in Birmingham, Ala., has retained Avison Young Outlet Resource Group to handle leasing and marketing for the 330,000-sf center, which opened in October 2010. Macerich’s Niagara outlet expansion opens this month

The first 29 of about 50 new retailers will open for business on October 23 at Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls (N.Y.) USA. Macerich, the owner/operator of the mall that opened in July 1982, will mount grand opening festivities for its 175,000-sf expansion on November 6. European outlet centers plan expansions

Developers are expanding thriving outlet centers from England to Dubai, from Naples to Moscow. Arcus Real Estate, Hines, McArthurGlen, Resolution Property and Value Retail are among those who are well along with major expansions. Paragon moves forward on Houston outlet center

Paragon Outlet Partners and the city of Rosenberg, Texas have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of an outlet center just off Houston's Southwest Freeway (Interstate 69), about 25 miles from downtown Houston. Howard Hughes gets the green light in Sacramento

The city of Elk Grove, Calif., just southeast of state capital Sacramento, gave planning commission approval to the latest plan submitted by Howard Hughes Corp. for redevelopment of the stalled Promenade Mall. Rack, Off 5th coming ashore in NYC

In two developments that could generate complementary shopper traffic, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th and Nordstrom Rack announced plans for big new stores on or near New York Harbor. The world’s 35 largest outlet centers – those that are 500,000 sf or bigger – are mostly found in North America. Twenty-five of the world’s largest are in the U.S., and three are in Canada. New England Development and Eastern Real Estate are set to open Marketplace at the Outlets this month. AEO Factory a fit for American Eagle

Half of the stores American Eagle Outfitters opened in Q2 of 2014 were AEO Factory Stores, a decision based in part on the division's productivity average of more than $600 per sf.
