National Awards Program Showcases Shopping Center Industry’s Leading Events, Programs, and Technology

LAS VEGAS, May 17, 2015 – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has announced the winners of the U.S. MAXI Awards, highlighting the retail real estate industry’s most innovative events, programs and technologies that add value to shopping centers and companies across the United States.

The U.S. MAXI Awards showcase the creative and innovative practices that paint the picture for the future of the industry. The category descriptions and respective award winners are as follows:

Traditional Marketing winners executed an award-winning strategy across a number of subcategories: advertising, business-to-business, cause related marketing, event and sales promotions, and public relations. The following winners, located from coast to coast, utilized myriad resources to re-energize centers and give back to their respective communities:

  • Gold: “Heartfelt Hero Salute,” Triangle Town Center, Hanes Mall and Cross Creek Mall, North Carolina
  • Gold: “The Perfect Taste - No Kid Hungry,” Avalon, Alpharetta, Georgia
  • Gold: “The Capital Wheel - Launching DC's Newest Attraction,” National Harbor, National Harbor, Maryland
  • Gold: “Northeast Mississippi Tornado Recovery Mediathon,” The Mall at Barnes Crossing, Tupelo, Mississippi
  • Gold: “CBL St. Louis Back-To-School Denim Drive,” CBL Centers, St. Louis, Missouri
  • Gold: “MORE Electronic Advertising Campaign,” CBL and Associates Properties, Inc., Chattanooga, Tennessee
  • Gold: “Yes! We Use Bottled Water!” Charleston Town Center, Charleston, West Virginia

The NOI Enhancement category recognized notable properties that significantly enhanced net operating income for their centers. The following award recipients showcased exemplary strategy across leasing, marketing/sponsorship and operations/overall:

  • Silver: “Atlantic Station Has Shaky Knees,” Atlantic Station, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Silver: “The Seaport District x WWD for Ten of Tomorrow,” South Street Seaport, New York, New York

  • Gold: “Leasing Outreach for Washington's Airports,” Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles, Virginia

The New Media/Emerging Technology award winners implemented successful integrated digital and social media campaigns. Utilizing digital strategies, the winners offered a range of immersive, interactive and innovative experiences for consumers that achieved the center’s brand and marketing communication goals. This category recognized the following campaigns:

  • Gold: “Avalon's Santa Elevates the Experience,” Avalon, Alpharetta, Georgia
  • Gold: “The Perfect Year,” Avalon, Alpharetta, Goergia
  • Gold: “Putting JOY back into the holidays,” JLL Centers, Chicago, Illinois
  • Gold: “Fashion Show/Grand Canal Shoppes' Lunar New Year Partnership,” Grand Canal Shoppes and Fashion Show, Las Vegas, Nevada

ICSC honored the winners on May 17 during a ceremony at RECon 2015, the world’s largest retail real estate convention held in Las Vegas.
