U.S. retail sales climbed 5.2 percent last week

Same-store sales were up by 5.2 percent for the week ended July 7, according to Econoday's Redbook. This is an increase of eight-tenths of a percentage point from the previous week's pace, the strongest gain since Dec. 23.

Month-to-date sales were still in negative territory, but the decrease narrowed by two-tenths of a percentage point, while the full-month year-on-year gain rose by two-tenths of a percentage point, to 4.3 percent.
