U.S. sales growth hit 13-year high last week: Report

January 2, 2019

U.S. consumers were still shopping several days after Christmas, leading to a sales surge for the week. Same-store sales at U.S. retailers jumped by 9.3 percent year on year for the week ended Dec. 29, according to Econoday's Redbook. This growth is 1.5 percentage points more than the prior week's pace and marks the strongest annual growth in more than a decade.

Month-to-date sales against the prior month climbed by 0.6 percent, while the full-month year-on-year gain increased by 0.5 percentage points, to 7.7 percent, the strongest reading of the year.
