Target says it will add nearly 250,000 square feet of new space for toys across some 500 stores.
The Minneapolis-based retailer also says it will remodel toy departments in about 100 stores, all of this being part of an effort to grab market share left by the liquidation of Toys ‘R’ Us.
Moreover, Target says it intends to introduce about 2,500 new and exclusive toys — nearly double the number last year. The company will be host to nearly 25,000 hours of family-friendly store events too, in addition to rolling out a new toy hub on Target.com and creating a digital children's catalog.
Target sees the exit of Toys ‘R’ Us as "a huge opportunity,” according to Mark Tritton, the company's chief merchandising officer, who also cites increases at some remodeled Target stores located within five miles of a closed Toys ‘R’ Us.
