Eyeglass chain Warby Parker, which started as an online retailer in 2010, is on track to have 100 stores open across the U.S. by year-end, up from 64 currently, CNBC reports.
The company opened its first store in New York City in 2013 after customers expressed a wish to try on glasses before buying.
"We think the presentation by retail experts of 'either [online] or [off-line] is a false choice," Warby Parker co-founder and Co-CEO Neil Blumenthal told CNBC. "It really is the intersection of the two. ... And we are trying to approach retail expansion in a very deliberate manner, where we are testing and learning."
Other online retailers have followed Warby Parker’s path to physical stores, including Allbirds (athletic shoes), Boll & Branch (bedding), Casper (mattresses), Everlane (apparel and accessories), Harry’s (shaving accessories) and Untuckit (shirts).
