Plans for the first major retail development in Southeast Michigan in a decade took a step forward last week, and developer Robert B. Aikens & Associates, LLC. is counting on making further progress at RECon, reports Crain’s Detroit Business. Dubbed Five & Main, the 55-acre mixed-use project in Commerce Township would offer retail, restaurants, entertainment, health clubs, homes and nature trails. The $100 million first phase, approved last week by municipal officials, would consist of 341,137-square-feet of retail and restaurants, with the latter taking up more than half the space. Vice Chairman Robert Bruce Aikens Jr. told Crain’s that he hopes to sign a contract with a movie theater at RECon.
The developer is also in negotiations with a residential developer to build 300 luxury apartments on the site, and a food market. Plans call for a groundbreaking next spring, and completion in the fall of 2020.
Five & Main would be the region’s first major retail development since the 2007 opening of Partridge Creek in Clinton Township, Crain’s reports.
