More retailers sign up for same-day delivery service

December 13, 2018

Demand for same-day delivery is driving a surge in business at Deliv Inc., which hires drivers to deliver online orders from stores and malls for a fee.

Deliv has signed up 20 new U.S. retailers including Nike and Bed Bath & Beyond this holiday season, according to Reuters.

The Menlo Park, Calif.-based firm's last-mile delivery clients include Walmart, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Best Buy in 1,400 cities.

Deliv’s contract drivers use Uber-like crowd-sourcing technology to make deliveries in under an hour.

“We are approaching 50 percent of the U.S. population,” Deliv CEO Daphne Carmeli told Reuters, referring to the people who can receive same-day delivery. She said 55 to 60 urban markets around the country can support an efficient same-day delivery service and Deliv is already in 35 of them. Deliv recently raised $40 million in a new round of funding from investors.
