Chris Weilminster and Donald Briggs will be leaving Federal Realty Investment Trust to join Urban Edge Properties. Effective on or before Dec. 31, Weilminster will become COO, and Briggs will be president of development. Robert Minutoli, Urban Edge’s current COO, plans to retire at the end of this year, after 10 years with the firm.

Weilminster has been with Federal Realty for the past 28 years, most recently as president of the mixed-use division and as executive vice president of leasing. Briggs is Federal Realty’s executive vice president of development, having joined the company 18 years ago.

“Chris and Don set the gold standard in retail real estate development and leasing,” said Jeffrey S. Olson, chairman and CEO of Urban Edge. “With their experience, creativity and leadership, we are well positioned to redevelop our existing assets and seize on acquisition opportunities we expect will be coming.”

Don Wood, Federal Realty’s president and CEO, says details about the timing of the two executives’ departure and the resulting organizational changes are still being decided. “Don and Chris have been my friends and partners during the entirety of my 20-year tenure at Federal Realty, and I’ll surely miss their friendship and professional contributions,” said Wood. “They will both be terrific added resources for Jeff Olson and the Urban Edge team. While I’m certainly sad to see them go, I’m excited for others in our organization who will have the opportunity to assume and refine the mantle of value-enhancing real estate development on both coasts.”

• Edge Realty Capital Markets promoted Kevin Holland to principal last month. Holland, who joined the firm in April of 2016, is based in the Houston office. The company also brought in Chace Henke as a senior vice president and Ryan Holliday as a senior associate. Henke joins the firm from the investment sales division of Transwestern, where she was a vice president. Holliday, too, joins Edge from Transwestern; he was an associate specializing in retail real estate investment sales, project leasing and tenant representation.

“The state of retail in New Jersey, a market that is rich with opportunity, makes this an exciting place to be”

• Retail-leasing specialist Alana Friedman has joined Cushman & Wakefield’s East Rutherford, N.J., office as a senior associate. The Fort Lee, N.J., resident brings six years of industry experience to the firm’s growing tristate-area retail practice. Friedman’s expertise spans retail tenant and landlord representation in New Jersey and across the Greater New York metropolitan area.

“Alana brings extensive knowledge, great energy and a passion for the retail sector,” noted Andrew Judd, the firm’s New Jersey market leader. “She will be a great asset as we enhance our service to regional property owners and brands looking to enter and expand in the Garden State.” Friedman comes to Cushman & Wakefield from RKF, and she has also been employed with The Goldstein Group. “The move to Cushman & Wakefield is a natural step for me,” Friedman said. “This company’s growing retail platform, the people here and the larger corporate culture are a great fit. Additionally, the state of retail in New Jersey, a market that is rich with opportunity, makes this an exciting place to be.”

• NewMark Merrill Cos. hired Kassandra Bishop as vice president of marketing and technology. Bishop will lead the company’s corporate and property marketing and technology efforts. Her role includes overseeing the overall strategy, implementation, budget, measurement, public relations and community involvement.

“We are very fortunate to have Kassandra join our company and lead our marketing and technology efforts,” said President and CEO Sanford D. Sigal. “She has both the experience and the knowledge to help our tenants become more successful, create synergy between our tenants, centers and the community, and to further help the introduction of cutting-edge technology, which will help our customers connect with our merchants in many different ways.”

Bishop brings 13 years of marketing experience, most recently as director of marketing and business development at Simon, where she led the marketing departments at several properties across Texas and California.
