Kroger has launched an autonomous-vehicle grocery delivery service in Houston.
This marks the second market in which the grocery chain has teamed up with Nuro’s delivery service, following a pilot program in Scottsdale, Ariz., according to an announcement from Kroger. Currently Nuro is using a self-driving Toyota Prius fleet but says it will introduce a custom-built vehicle later this year.
Customers can schedule deliveries seven days a week for same-day or next-day delivery using an app. They pay a $5.95 flat fee for the service.
Kroger has been at the forefront of research and development in grocery delivery technology.
