Federal Realty Investment Trust will tear down the 80,000-square-foot open-air portion of the Shops at Sunset Place and replace it with three apartment and hotel towers. The company will also renovate the rest of the mall. Sources say the plan will turn the inward-facing mall outward. Miami Herald

Washington Prime Group purchased two acres of empty lots near its WestShore Plaza to facilitate the replacement of a vacated Sears store with a mixed-use complex. Zoning plans filed March 11 called for nearly 900,000 square feet of the property to be dedicated to retail, and an additional 200,000 square feet to medical clinic space. Roughly 1,100 residential units, a 240-room hotel and 120,000 square feet of restaurants are in the plans too. Tampa Bay Times

Tri-Land Properties broke ground on Salem Gate Market, which is to have a Hobby Lobby anchor, a 20,000-square-foot Northern Tool & Equipment, a 103-room hotel and an Allure Nail & Spa, on a roughly 20-acre site.
