In the pipeline: Who’s building what, where

South Miami, Fla.
Federal Realty Investment Trust will tear down the 80,000-square-foot open-air portion of the Shops at Sunset Place and replace it with three apartment and hotel towers. The company will also renovate the rest of the mall. Sources say the plan will turn the inward-facing mall outward. Miami Herald

Tampa, Fla.
Washington Prime Group purchased two acres of empty lots near its WestShore Plaza to facilitate the replacement of a vacated Sears store with a mixed-use complex. Zoning plans filed March 11 called for nearly 900,000 square feet of the property to be dedicated to retail, and an additional 200,000 square feet to medical clinic space. Roughly 1,100 residential units, a 240-room hotel and 120,000 square feet of restaurants are in the plans too. Tampa Bay Times

Conyers, Ga.
Tri-Land Properties broke ground on Salem Gate Market, which is to have a Hobby Lobby anchor, a 20,000-square-foot Northern Tool & Equipment, a 103-room hotel and an Allure Nail & Spa, on a roughly 20-acre site. The first phase is set to begin in August, with the completion anticipated for sometime in the summer of 2020. The Citizens

U-Haul opened a 100,000-square-foot outpost in the former Younkers department-store anchor at Frew Development Group’s Westdale Town Center. U-Haul, which operates truck and trailer rental as well as climate-controlled indoor storage on the site, will purchase the building. The Gazette

District Eat and Play, an entertainment concept offering an arcade, a billiards parlor, a bowling alley, escape rooms, a bar and a restaurant, will be moving into the former Sears store at Central Mall. KSAL.com

The Carolina Panthers football team is planning a $250 million, 200-acre development to house a new headquarters; a sports medicine facility; office, retail and residential space; and a hotel and conference center. The State

Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Developers plan to add a four-tenant center occupying 75,000 square feet onto the Main Street Oak Ridge complex, an ongoing redevelopment of the former Oak Ridge Mall into a mixed-use center. Oak Ridge Today

Katy, Texas
Simon has completed the first phase of renovations at the 20-year-old Katy Mills, which involved adding a children’s play area and modernized interiors. Completion of the second and third phases, with exterior upgrades, is expected to happen later this year. Community Impact Newspaper
