Daniel Hurwitz named 2019–2020 ICSC chairman

May 20, 2019

Daniel B. Hurwitz, founder and CEO of Raider Hill Advisors, was elected ICSC’s 2019–2020 chairman by the organization’s Board of Trustees. Hurwitz has held leading roles at major U.S. retail real estate companies over the past three decades. John R. Morrison, CRX, CDP, another retail real estate veteran, was made vice chairman.

As ICSC’s 60th chairman, Hurwitz succeeds Valerie Richardson, CRX, CLS, vice president of real estate at The Container Store.

Raider Hill Advisors provides consulting, investment, management and market-research services for private and public retail real estate investors and operators, and for retailers. Before founding New York City–based Raider Hill Advisors, Hurwitz was CEO of DDR Corp. (now SITE Centers). In his 32-year career, Hurwitz has held a variety of positions in the retail and real estate sectors.

“Dan brings extensive industry experience and knowledge, which will be valuable to ICSC’s continued growth and success,” said ICSC President and CEO Tom McGee. “The expertise he has acquired through his years working in retail, investment [and] real estate, and leading large corporations, will prove useful in navigating the changes in the industry and helping ICSC lead the conversation about the future of retail real estate.”

Hurwitz serves on the directorial boards of Brixmor Property Group and retailer Diamonds Direct. He is a graduate of Colgate University and the Wharton School of Business Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

“I’m excited to serve my fellow members as ICSC’s next chairman,” said Hurwitz. “The organization plays an important role in helping its members connect with one another, learn the industry and grow their businesses. My membership has been invaluable throughout my career, and I look forward to being able to give back at the highest level.”

Morrison has over four decades of experience in the commercial real estate industry and has been an active member of ICSC for nearly that long. Most recently, he was vice chairman, president and CEO of Toronto-based Choice Properties REIT. He has also served variously as president and CEO of Primaris Real Estate Investment Trust and as president of real estate management at Oxford Properties Group. Morrison is an ICSC trustee and a member of the organization’s executive board, as well as a director of the ICSC Foundation and the chairman of the ICSC Foundation Canada. He is a former vice chairman of the Urban Land Institute Toronto District Council and a past chairman of the Ryerson University Real Estate Advisory Committee. He also holds a number of other volunteer corporate and educational positions.
