Census Bureau seeks ICSC input

May 2, 2018

ICSC and members of its North American research advisory group recently met with officials from the U.S. Census Bureau to discuss how data around retail sales are collected and reported. This is the second time census officials have met with this group. The first meeting in mid-2016 resulted in the release of a brand new dataset tabulating e-commerce sales by industry – an invaluable resource to gauge the sales volumes and rates of growth for e-commerce sales by online-only retailers versus retailers with brick-and-mortar operations. It is expected that this most recent discussion will result in providing more relevant, timely data from the Census Bureau to decision makers as well as information that best reflects 21st century retail.
