Brooks Brothers’ 260 stores will be doing double duty as fulfillment warehouses for online orders, starting next year.
The 200-year-old, classic-apparel company is joining a bevy of other retailers that have speeded up online-order deliveries by using their stores as distribution centers, The Wall Street Journal reports. Currently, Brooks Brothers funnels all online orders from two warehouses — one in Connecticut, and the other in North Carolina.
Using its 260 stores as distribution centers will facilitate same-day delivery, Brooks Brothers says
“We want to use all our stores as a warehouse and also serve the major towns the same day,” said COO Gianluca Tanzi, as reported in the newspaper. “Right now we can’t do that.”
Currently, it could take as long as five days for merchandise to reach the West Coast. Under the new system, those items could be available there the very same day. This effort will also serve the growing numbers of customers who like to order online for pickup at a store.
