Amazon plans to grow cashier-free format at airports: Report

December 7, 2018

Amazon is flying into airports.

The retail giant wants to open its checkout-free Amazon Go stores in airports, according to Reuters.

Seven Amazon Go stores have opened since January — in Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle. Other retailers are also adopting cashierless formats to cater to consumers' craving for convenience.

Amazon is now evaluating several top U.S. airports for new locations, according to e-mails sent to concessions officials at Los Angeles International and San Jose International airports.

Amazon says that airports will provide its new technology and its brand access to those consumers it wants. “Think about how you can expose your brand,” an anonymous executive told Reuters. “You’ll be able to build broad awareness just being in a dozen of the best airports.”
