London, 23 April, 2015 – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) officially launched the first SPREE Europe yesterday in London, a trade show focused exclusively on commercialisation and specialty leasing in Europe.
The conference kicked off with the British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) annual Opal Awards, the only UK award programme to recognise and reward commercialisation within shopping centres.
Julia Langkraehr, Managing Director at BoldClarity presented the first session and delivered snapshots of the most innovative and exciting new trends in specialty leasing before Bill Moss, Brand Ventures Director, Westfield Europe and Anthony Ganjou, CEO at CURB, examined the role of experiential retail in the modern-day shopping experience and the future of this category.
Cyrus Gilbert-Rolfe, Chief Operating Officer, at Path Intelligence presented a session on omnichannel retailing and how mobile technology and the internet have changed consumer buying behaviour before Scott Abbey, Location Strategy and Acquisition, ASICS Europe BV taught the attendees the best practices to launch or grow a mall retail programme.
Finally, the audience discussed the real value of net rental income and the impact of the changing digital landscape on shopping centres before Ross Bailey, Founder of the pop-up store company Appear Here, Bianca Levy Campos, Specialty Leasing Coordinator at Sonae Sierra and Sophie Ross, Head of Multichannel at Hammerson, came together to discuss creative uses for pop-up store space and kiosks to increase shopper traffic.
Specialty leasing is €6 billion a year industry and SPREE Europe provided the opportunity for specialty retailers and shopping centre developers to come together for this one-day conference to network and participate in educational sessions that met their specific needs.
Mike Morrissey, ICSC Executive Vice-President said “We are delighted with the positive response from our members to launching SPREE Europe, the first event here focused on commercialisation and specialty leasing. By linking this new event to the ICSC European Conference, we gave the opportunity for delegates to combine their attendance at both events in one trip to London, so they could learn more from our excellent group of speakers.”
Patricia Norins, Vice President, Specialty Programs, ICSC said “It was an extraordinary opportunity to bring specialty leasing professionals, agencies and brands together to discuss exciting new innovations in this rapidly growing sector of the industry. The speakers delivered top-notch content and the energy level of the delegates was palpable.”
