Highlights from the ICSC European Retail Property Academy

On the third of July ICSC kicked off its 2017 annual European Retail Property Academy in sunny Barcelona, Spain. With over 90 participants and courses taught by world-renowded industry professionals, the academy was not one to miss. The jam-packed schedule for the 3 day academy offered a variety of learning opportunities and networking experiences. Classes like ‘crisis management’ taught by James Lythe, ‘Trends in Retail’ taught by Byron Lewis and ‘Marketing Opportunities through cold calling, prospecting & social media’ taught by Franka Lange, gave the participants the opportunity to advance their knowledge into a more holistic view of the industry. Other speakers included Phil Cottingham (Freeport Retail), Bernd S. Huber (IMAG Real Estate Consultancy), Chris Igwe (Chris Igwe international) , Jan Kubíček, Ivana Maksimovic (Confluence Property Management), Ross Mccall (British Land), Christian Oloffson (Megabangna & Megacity), Byron Lewis (Mall Solutions Europe), Arcadio Gil (LaSBA, S.A.), Miguel Figueiredo (JLL) and Jaime Guerreiro Pérez (Unibail-Rodamco) and William J. Sebring (STIR Architecture).
With over 20 hours of tailored instruction carefully designed by industry front runners, there was a lot for the participants to learn. The academy included a guided tour, and the chance to explore the Les Glories shopping centre which is in the heart of new Barcelona. Between the hustle and bustle of classes there was ample time to reconnect with old friends and network with future ones, as well as enjoy some of Barcelona’s best scenery.
