Student Membership

ICSC’s unique student membership program offers a comprehensive membership benefit package to high school, college, and graduate students for a calendar year. At only $50, this is one of the best investments you can make as you explore career options or set your sights on a job in the industry. The Leadership Development team, which supports you as a student member will help you negotiate the association to maximize fully the opportunities available to you.

Academic Support & Information Resources

Whether preparing for a class project, writing a research paper, or staying up-to-date on current events for interviewing, ICSC offers unparalleled access to industry and government data, research reports and other analytic products, and up-to-the minute analysis of industry developments. The ICSC Research Department's Sussman e-library, available to student members, is for your use 24/7, to arm you with ideas and strategies that will outpace your peers. The industry’s flagship publication, Shopping Centers Today, will arrive in your e-mail inbox each month, with informative articles about retail real estate developments, company news, thoughts from opinion leaders, and job advertisements.

Tuition and other college expenses are increasing at an astronomical rate, and the ICSC Foundation offers a generous array of undergraduate and graduate awards and scholarships to students interested in retailing, real estate, and related academic programs. No other organization offers such an extensive set of financial assistance opportunities to students in the sector. For more information, contact Bethany Vensel, Manager, ICSC Foundation, at bvensel@icsc.org or 646-728-3628.

Practical Experience

Encouraged by motivated members in Texas and elsewhere, ICSC is launching the first ever ICSC National Student Case Study Competition in the 2015-16 academic year. This competition will create an unprecedented occasion for undergraduate students to have the hands-on experience of developing—with consultation of retail real estate volunteers—and delivering a professional quality case presentation, before industry veterans, at a major ICSC conference. Semi-finalists, representing ICSC’s four regions: East, Central, South, and West, will compete for a Grand Prize, awarded at RECon 2016 in Las Vegas. For more information, contact Sarah Ritchie, Manager, Leadership Development, at sritchie@icsc.org or 646-728-3490.

Class work is important, but nothing beats the advice and consultation of people in the industry who know the ropes. ICSC has developed an extensive mentoring program, at larger meetings around the country, to pair students with a corps of distinguished veterans who spend time offering advice and suggestion on job searches and “next steps.” Since 2008, Over 1,500 of these sessions have benefited our student members. For details about opportunities to become a mentee or mentor, contact Sarah Ritchie, Manager, Leadership Development, at sritchie@icsc.org or 646-728-3490.

For those seeking to enter the industry, you know that retail real estate is a business based on relationships. With over 400 meetings a year, from small local programs, to targeted specialty meetings, to our massive RECon gathering in Las Vegas (drawing 30,000+ participants) there is no better way to meet your future colleagues and employers that at an ICSC gathering. ICSC student members have the added benefit of receiving a great discount for meeting registration. For only $50, a student can attend any ICSC conference.

Internship & Job Searches

The end goal, of course, is to facilitate student members taking the next step, crossing the bridge from college to a job after graduation, often with internship experience along the way. ICSC’s job board is the central gathering place for industry jobs, for those at the beginning of their career to more senior positions. For questions related to the job & internship or resume databases, contact us at membership@icsc.org or 646-728-3514.
