Planned Phase 1 Projects
Six U.S. outlet projects totaling 1.4 million sf, and two megamalls totaling 2.7 million sf are expected to open by yearend; early optimism for 2002 phase 1 projects include 11 outlet centers totaling 2.7 million sf, and three megamalls totaling 4 million sf.
Campera Outlet Shopping, which opened in October 2000 as Portugal’s first outlet center (right and below), has seen consumer demand so high that shops have run out of merchandise while traffic jams have prevented restocking.
MEPC Enters a New REALM
After surviving a buy-out of its parent company, the outlet division at MEPC has reinvented itself under the new name of Realm and will focus on re-energizing its five outlet projects in the UK.
Guinea Group buys Loch Lomond
The owner of England's Clacton Common has bought Loch Lomond Outlet Center in Alexandria Scotland (below) from Realm. The company plans to expand both the shopping & leisure aspects of the project.
