Thailand’s Seacon Square earmarks Bt107 million for upgrades

THAILAND’S SEACON SQUARE EARMARKS BT107 MILLION FOR UPGRADES

Popular among locals and tourists, Seacon square will get a facelift and more

Seacon Square in Thailand is earmarking Bt107 million (US$2.6 million) to enhance the mall’s appeal to shoppers.

The revamp on the giant mall in eastern Bangkok would involve creating new shop zones for specific products and services as well as improving traffic facilities.

The improvements are part of the mall’s three-year plan to gear up for the expected increase in visitors to the Srinakarin area once Bangkok’s second international airport is built nearby.

Seacon Development, the mall operator, expects its revenues to grow by 12% this year to Bt824.32 million. It plans to increase the space rental fee by 7% some time this year.
Of the Bt107 million to be spent on improvements, Bt10 million is to open a mobile phone zone on the ground floor with 104 retail booths. Another Bt20 million will be spent on creating a health and beauty zone.

The mall operator and EGV Entertainment have agreed to invest Bt20 million into a new fashion zone targeted at teenagers.

Another Bt2 million has been set aside to improve the food court while Bt5 million would go towards improving the amusement park, Yoyo Land, to make it one of the mall’s main attractions.

For the exterior of the shopping mall, the company has allocated Bt10 million for a building facelift and Bt 40 million to build an elevated bridge to improve car traffic.

Also on the cards is the creation of a trendy zone, a new retail concept to attract young customers to the mall by trendy retailers like those in Siam Square and chatuchak Weekend Market. To be launched in June with 400 retail units covering 5,000 sqm, sales in the new zone are expected to be about Bt80 million per month.
