‘Data warehouse’ launched for Latin malls

By Edmund Mander

A few strokes of the keyboard could tell owners and investors everything they want to know about the Latin American malls in their portfolios, thanks to a new system launched in October at ICSC’s 2nd Conference of the Americas in Miami.

The system, created by Victor & Schellenberger, , a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil-based information systems provider and shopping center industry consultant, will enable owners to build Websites describing individual centers down to the last detail. That way, an operator wanting up-to-date information about this mall’s monthly sales, that mall’s tenants or another center’s current rent per square foot, need only consult his or her computer.

“The dream of the Brazilian owner is to manage the center as efficiently as the U.S. developers do,” said Carlos Schellenberger, one of the firm’s partners. “In the future you will be able to operate the center more efficiently and at lower cost.”

Developers may elect either to operate the servers themselves, or have Victor & Schellenberger do it for them. Either way, it will give them much faster and easier access to data about their companies.

“This system is like a data warehouse,” said Victor Almeida, the company’s corporate director, one of several executives showing off the system at the conference trade show.

What’s more, it is a warehouse on wheels, said Angelo Salvetti, information systems engineer. “With the Internet, they can access the information and manage the system wherever they are.”
