MAXI Award entry forms due June 9

The call is on for submissions for ICSC's 1998 MAXI Awards. Entry forms for the MAXIs, created to honor the best uses of marketing in the shopping center industry, are due at ICSC's New York office by 5:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 9.

One MAXI and two Merit awards may be given in the following categories: Community Service; Public Relations; Consumer or Trade Advertising; Sales Promotion and Merchandising; Grand Opening, Expansion and Renovation; Retailer Development; Center Productivity; and Leasing Support. The bulk of the program entered must have been implemented between June 1, 1996 and May 31, 1997.

Various elements of an overall campaign may be entered in different categories.

"This allows a grand opening, for example, to be entered in several categories, such as public relations campaign, consumer or trade advertising, as well as the grand opening itself," said Alberta Davidson, SCMD, vice president of corporate marketing for San Diego-based TrizecHahn Centers, and 1998 MAXI Chairwoman.

However, a single element of a program may not be entered in more than one category.

Entries (consisting of a three-ring notebook binder with required elements) must be submitted by 5 p.m. EDT to Scottsdale Fashion Square Management Office, Attn.: Veronica Lovesy, SCMD, ICSC MAXI Awards Program, 7014-590 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.

One of the biggest mistakes entrants make, Ms. Davidson said, is enclosing three-dimensional items with their applications.
"Those are discarded, and a critical element of the entry could be lost," she explained.

The judging will be held June 22-26 in Tempe, Ariz., with finalists announced in midsummer, Ms. Davidson said. The awards will be presented on Sept. 15 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, in conjunction with ICSC's Fall Management and Marketing Conference.

A MAXI dinner will be held immediately following the awards ceremony at the San Francisco Hilton. A separate ticket is required for the event.

"We believe it will be a nice way to extend the celebration," Ms. Davidson said.
