SCHOLARSHIP HONORS LATE BARRY M. DAVIS

Barry M. Davis

ICSC will award the first Barry M. Davis Memorial Next Generation Educational Scholarship at the New York Conference & Deal Making. The scholarship was created to honor a leading industry player who was active in ICSC.

Davis, a founder of Sun Management Corp., a New York City-based real estate investment firm, died in February at age 56.

The scholarship, administered through ICSC’s Educational Foundation, will promote continuing education and professional development for new entrants in the shopping center industry. The recipient will attend levels I and II of the ICSC John T. Riordan School for Professional Development and receive funding for registration, textbooks, hotel accommodations, meals and airfare to both schools, in Arizona and Michigan.

This is the first memorial scholarship under the umbrella group of John T. Riordan scholarships. It will honor Davis’ commitment to professional development in the shopping center industry, for which he was well known among his peers.

Davis joined the retail real estate industry in 1979, when he and partner Peter D. Gamar co-launched Sun Management to acquire and manage properties throughout the United States.

Davis served as divisional chairman for government relations from 1993 through 1996 and was New York state director from 1990 through 1993. He was a longtime member of the Program Committee for the New York Conference; in 1995 Davis received the Distinguished Service Award.

“He had a passion for the business, and he was a mentor to everyone,” said Janet Davis, his widow. Davis died after a long struggle with kidney cancer.
