WTC’S SILVERSTEIN TO ADDRESS NEW YORK SHOW

BY DEBRA HAZEL

Developer Larry Silverstein, who owns the lease on the World Trade Center site, will be the keynote speaker at ICSC’s New York Conference & Deal Making, to be held Dec. 8-10 at the Hilton New York & Towers.

Silverstein, president of New York City-based Silverstein Properties, acquired a 99-year lease and the development rights to the 16-acre complex just six weeks before it was destroyed in the Sept. 11 attacks. Silverstein Properties has developed more than 20 million square feet of real estate in New York City.

“We are very excited that Larry Silverstein will be speaking, because of his prominence in the city and his work at the Trade Center,” said Thomas A. Caputo, an executive vice president of Kimco Realty Corp. and the co-chairman of the program planning committee for this year’s meeting.

A session titled “Wall Street on Retail” will present Mark A. Husson, a first vice president at Merrill Lynch, and Aram Rubinson, a hard-goods retail analyst at Banc of America Securities. They will review the current state of the industry and look at various national and regional chains.

The Retailers’ Runway will feature representatives from Chipotle Mexican Grill, Five Below, TJX and other chains. These speakers will discuss their companies’ expansion plans.

Scores of companies have signed up for the deal-making section of the show, which takes place Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.
