IN BRIEF

General Growth

The rebuilt skating rink at the Galleria Dallas reopened on Sept. 21, as part of the center’s ongoing redevelopment. Well known for holiday events, the rink will stage an ice show, a tree more than 85 feet tall and some elaborate decorations this Christmas. The process is slated for completion on Nov. 11, when General Growth Properties will host and help sponsor the 2004 Dallas Heart Ball.

Victory

Dallas-based Hillwood Capital began construction on the six-building second phase of Victory, a 72-acre mixed-use development in the heart of Dallas. The retail portion will be housed in Victory Plaza, a pair of buildings with street-level retail space, nightclubs, offices, and rooftop and balcony dining. Overall, the project will comprise 235,000 square feet of retail space, 25,000 square feet of offices and 600 residential units. Hillwood expects to complete the second phase in the spring of 2006. The first phase, completed in 2001, was a sports and entertainment venue.

El Portal Center

Chicago-based Horizon Group Properties, a factory outlet owner and developer, has teamed up with Beverly Hills, Calif.-based investor Morgan Stern Realty Holdings to redevelop the Riverdrive Mall, Laredo, Texas. The new 400,000-square-foot project, which is to be renamed El Portal Center, will serve shoppers from Nuevo Laredo, Nuevo Leon and other communities.

Pederson

The Phoenix-based Pederson Group plans to build an $11.6 million neighborhood center in Scottsdale, Ariz. The firm recently bought a 22-acre site site at Hayden Road and Thompson Peak Parkway, reported The Arizona Republic. The center, which is still unnamed, is to be anchored by a supermarket and will include small shops.
