SCT NAMES MANDER EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Veteran journalist Edmund Mander has been appointed editor-in-chief of Shopping Centers Today magazine, Publisher Mark J. Schoifet announced in September.

Mander, 43, assumes the management of all of SCT’s U.S. editorial operations: SCT, SCT Xtra and SCT Newswire.

For Mander, the move is a homecoming of sorts. He is returning to ICSC on a full-time basis. He was hired in 1996 as a senior editor of SCT and was promoted to executive editor in November 1997, which at the time was the No. 2 editorial position on the magazine. He left in 1999 to pursue a freelance career, and rejoined SCT as senior contributing editor on a part-time basis in 2000. In that capacity, he has written many of the magazine’s front-page articles and special reports.

Before joining ICSC he served as a reporter for five years at the Journal Inquirer, a daily newspaper in Manchester, Conn. Prior to that, he worked for three years as a reporter for another Connecticut daily, The Bristol Press.

“Edmund’s journalism skills, his knowledge of the shopping center industry and his experience on the ICSC staff are a powerful combination,” Schoifet said. “Although SCT is already the No. 1 magazine in the field, I’m confident that Edmund will raise the editorial quality level even higher in the months to come.”

Mander is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He was born and raised in London, and he attained his U.S. citizenship in 2000. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, Lelia, and their 7-month-old son, Harry.
