FOES OF CLEVELAND AREA CENTER HIT SNAG

A group trying to derail plans for a shopping center in the Cleveland suburb of Chardon suffered a setback by failing to get the issue on the November ballot.

Opponents of Meadowlands Town Center, a 484,000-square-foot, Wal-Mart-anchored center proposed by DeBartolo Property Group, wanted to enable residents to vote on a zone change for the site, a 66-acre parcel between Ohio 44 and U.S. 6. But they failed to obtain enough qualified signatures and file the petitions on time, according to Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer newspaper.
