BODY LANGUAGE SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT CANDIDATES

Body language can speak as loudly as a resume, according to Tampa, Fla.-based security and negotiation consultant Steven C. Millwee — if you know what to look for. There are some things that an interviewer can watch for when speaking with a potential new hire:

1. A single movement is meaningless — a gesture doesn’t indicate a candidate is truthful, or not.

2. Pattern of behaviors may be a consistent sign of untruthfulness — if a candidate makes a certain gesture during relatively simple questions, but acts different at key queries, be cautious.

3. Do not confront a person with their adverse body language, Millwee advises. “You’re educating them as to what they’re doing wrong.”
