New format for Spring Convention

By Edmund Mander

In an effort to better serve its members, ICSC has announced major changes to the format of the 2001 Spring Convention to be held in Las Vegas May 20–23, including an earlier start to the Leasing Mall.

The three main components of the convention — the Leasing Mall, Trade Expo and educational sessions — will now run concurrently on both Monday and Tuesday. The new theme is “Three in One in 2001: The One for You.”

The Leasing Mall at the Las Vegas Convention Center will now open one-and-a-half days earlier, at 9 a.m. on Monday (May 21) and run through Wednesday. In years past, the Leasing Mall opened at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and continued through Thursday.

The Trade Expo, which features vendors of products and services to the industry, will continue to kick off the convention at noon on Sunday (May 20) at the convention center and then run concurrently with the Leasing Mall on Monday and Tuesday.

“These changes will provide members with a tighter and more efficient program,” said Marvin Morrison, ICSC senior staff vice president for meetings and conventions. “The business of leasing and deal making can now be done much earlier, and that should also help reduce some of the travel costs associated with the convention.”

At press time, ICSC had not yet determined the format for the educational sessions or meal functions.
