WHAT IS CENCOSUD?

Cencosud boasts nearly 18 million square feet of retail space in its portfolio of 20 malls throughout Chile and Argentina. The firm also owns the Jumbo hypermarkets (17 in Chile, 13 in Argentina), the Santa Isabel supermarket chain (106 in Chile), the 234-unit Disco supermarket chain (all in Argentina) and the Easy home improvement chain, which operates 20 stores in Chile and 26 in Argentina.

The company recently acquired the Chile-based Paris department store chain, with 22 stores in Chile. Other holdings are Banco de París and Aventura Center, a chain of seven theme parks in Argentina and Chile that include billiard halls, bowling alleys and skating rinks. Cencosud has been aggressively expanding some of its retail units to neighboring countries, particularly Peru and Colombia.
