Retail Intelligence, a British research firm, reported that with approximately 150.7 billion square feet, the United Kingdom has overtaken France, which has approximately 148.5 billion square feet, in terms of shopping center gross leasable area in Europe. Germany came in third with 102.3 billion square feet. … Police in Grand Rapids, Mich., issued arrest warrants for two people in a case they described as “aisle rage.” Two women allegedly punched and pulled the hair of a mother and daughter outside a supermarket following a shopping cart collision. … Following Wal-Mart Stores’ lead, Kmart, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Ames all have offered free check-cashing services for forthcoming income tax rebate checks. Ames, however, is stipulating customers must purchase merchandise from the store to get the free service. Customers at Kmart can opt for a Kmart Tax Rebate Cash Card which will include a 5% bonus on top of whatever the customer puts on the card. … A suspicious-looking package led police to evacuate the headquarters of retailer The Home Depot in mid July, but the parcel turned out to be a box of vibrating pagers.
