Retail pioneers made up nearly half of Forbes list of the world’s 15 richest individuals. Five members of the Walton clan made the list along with Karl and Theo Albrecht, founders of Aldi, a German discount retail chain. … Abercrombie & Fitch’s summer catalog came under fire for featuring racy photographs of scantily clad, young male and female models. The retailer even requires customers to present an ID proving that they are 18 or older to buy the plastic-wrapped catalogs at its stores. Previous editions have included interviews with porn stars and an article titled “Drinking 101” that angered Mothers Against Drunk Driving. … LaPlata County sheriff’s deputies grabbed 40 shoppers at a Wal-Mart and two other stores in Durango, Colo., in June to serve on jury duty after the district court faced a shortage of potential jurors. … Kmart said in late June that it would discontinue the sale of handgun ammunition during the next three months. The decision came after a meeting among company executives, filmmaker and activist Michael Moore and victims of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. Kmart will continue to sell hunting rifles and other long guns. … In its half-year report, H&M said that excessively high inventory levels at its U.S. stores have led to huge price reductions on its merchandise, which have affected its earnings by about $5 million. …
