WESTFIELD’S GREEN DEAD AT 64

Richard E. Green, vice chairman of U.S. operations for Westfield Group, died May 16. He was 64. “Richard’s contribution to Westfield cannot be overstated,” said Peter Lowy, the company’s U.S. CEO. “He joined the company in 1980, when the only Westfield staff in the U.S. were Frank and David Lowy. We interviewed him in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, and from that moment he became a driving force behind our growth in the U.S.” Since then, Westfield has become the largest retail landlord in California and a huge U.S. player. Green was an ICSC trustee from 1990 to 1996. His son Larry is a senior vice president of development at Westfield. Westfield San Francisco Centre, one of Westfield’s largest U.S. redevelopment projects, done under Green’s tenure and in partnership with Forest City, is set to open later this year.
