HARTFORD AREA LIFESTYLE DEVELOPMENT

Memphis, Tenn.-based Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers will break ground this fall on the 375,000-square-foot Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor, Conn., a suburb of Hartford. The lifestyle center is part of a mixed-use project called Evergreen Walk, which is being developed by private investors and will include 500 apartments, a 250-room hotel and 650,000 square feet of offices. Poag & McEwen have commitments from such retailers as Brooks Bros., Coldwater Creek and Williams-Sonoma. The developers hope to finish the project by the fall of 2004.

STRIPS IN CONN., MASS.

S.R. Weiner broke ground in April on the 450,000-square-foot Derby Street Shoppes, Hingham, Mass., and the 370,000-square-foot Shoppes at Farmington Valley, Canton, Conn. Both are scheduled to open next spring. This fall the Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based community center developer will open the 750,000-square-foot Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, Millbury, Mass.

PLYMOUTH, MASS., SPECIALTY PROJECT

Newton, Mass.-based New England Development is building the 500,000-square-foot Shops at Long Pond, Plymouth, Mass. The company plans to break ground on the specialty retail center this fall, with the opening date set for the fall of 2004. B.J.’s Wholesale Club has signed on as a tenant.

MANCHESTER, N.H., MIXED-USE CENTER

The city of Manchester, N.H., is in partnership with private investors and other parties on a downtown mixed-used center along the Merrimack River that will feature retail, entertainment and residential components. Urban Retail Properties is handling the leasing and expects to court restaurants and big-box retailers. The project, which has yet to be named, will be built next to a new, 6,500-seat stadium that is to be the home of the New Haven (Conn.) Ravens, a minor league baseball team. The retail portion will span up to 200,000 square feet, with ground-breaking to take place by year-end and completion set for the fall of 2005.
