ICSC BOARD TAPS INGRAM, PASSES REINS TO KERCHEVAL

The changing of the guard

LAS VEGAS — John M. Ingram was elected chairman and Michael P. Kercheval was named president and CEO at the ICSC Spring Convention by the ICSC Board of Trustees at its 2001-02 organizational meeting here at the Las Vegas Hilton. Ingram, a veteran retail real estate executive who is currently vice chairman of The Mills Corp., Arlington, Va., becomes the 42nd chairman of the 39,000-member trade association. He succeeds Robert L. Ward, president and CEO of Phoenix-based Westcor Partners.

Kercheval, 45, who joined the 130-person staff of ICSC in January 2000, is a former Lend Lease executive with a strong background in economics. He becomes only the third chief staff officer in ICSC’s 44-year history, succeeding John T. Riordan (1986-01) and Albert Sussman (1958-85). Riordan, who is stepping down to chair the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will continue to serve ICSC in an advisory capacity as vice chairman.

At the annual meeting of members, the following were elected to initial three-year terms as trustees: Gayle C. Aertker, executive vice president of real estate, Office Depot, Delray Beach, Fla.; Maxine Clark, chief executive of The Build-A-Bear Workshop, St. Louis, Mo.; Bruce Johnston, president of May Realty, St. Louis; Mitchell S. Klipper, president of Barnes & Noble Development, New York City; and Jeffrey R. Sinkey, vice president of real estate, Abercrombie & Fitch, Columbus, Ohio.

Retiring trustees were James H. Culpepper, Trammell Crow Co., Charlotte, N.C.; John DeWolf, New England Development, Newton, Mass.; Barry D. Kaufman, The Limited, Columbus, Ohio; Bruce Macleod, The Palladium Co., New York City; and Christopher J, Niehaus, Morgan Stanley Realty, New York City.

The Executive Committee for the new term will consist of Ingram; Christopher Fox, vice president for committees; Kathleen Nelson, secretary-treasurer; the five divisional vice presidents: Norris Eber, SCSM/CLS (Central), James Maurin (Southern), Seymore Obront (Canadian); Thomas Purcell (Western) and Gary Rappaport, SCSM/SCMD/CLS (Eastern); and two chairman’s appointees, Michael Lowenkron and Matthew Dominski.

Also serving on the Executive Committee are Leonard Farber, ICSC’s first chairman and Trustee for Life; and the five immediate past chairmen: Ward, William H. McCabe Jr., Richard Sokolov, Drew Alexander and Charles Lebovitz.
