Cadillac Fairview

Cadillac Fairview is expanding its Fairview Park mall in Kitchener, Ontario. The mall, which lies about 67 miles west of Toronto, is growing by 90,000 square feet, to 836,000 square feet. The developer is adding space to a Wal-Mart and the food court, and is making more room for in-line tenants. Cadillac Fairview expects to start work on the C$55 million ($39 million) project in the fall and complete it 18 months later. In Calgary, Alberta, the company is expanding its 724,000-square-foot Market Mall by 150,000 square feet, increasing its food court and in-line space. The developer expects to complete that C$90 million job in August. At Toronto (Ontario) Eaton Centre, Cadillac Fairview is adding an H&M store and building an 18-story tower for holding advertisements. The developer hopes to complete that work in the fall. Also in Toronto, Cadillac Fairview has acquired a former parking lot in the downtown, where it plans a mixed-use project.

Falls Management Co.

The 125,000-square-foot, three-level Galleria Shops and Dining at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, is set to open this month. High-end apparel retailer Giorgio, Turtle Pond Toys and Wyland Gallery will be among the tenants. Toronto-based Falls Management Co., is developing the center and the resort.

Casual Male

Casual Male Retail Group, operator of the 486-unit Casual Male Big & Tall chain, is expanding north of the border with shops in 12 Sears Canada units this year. The company plans to go into an additional 68 Sears stores next year.

Rona

The 530-unit Canadian home improvement retailer Rona is changing the name of its Ontario Building Box stores to Rona Home & Garden.

InterTan

Circuit City is buying InterTan, the owner of 980 stores in Canada that operate under such brand names as RadioShack, Rogers Plus and others, for $284 million. The companies expect to close the deal sometime this quarter.

Mills Corp., Ivanhoe

The Mills Corp. announced five tenants that will be part of the 1.2 million-square-foot Vaughn (Ontario) Mills value megamall the developer is opening in October, outside Ontario with Ivanhoe Cambridge. They are Bass Pro Shops, Burlington Coat Factory, The Children’s Place, H&M and Linens ’n Things.
 

La Senza

Montréal-based lingerie retailer La Senza settled a trademark dispute with Dutch lingerie chain Hunkemoller, which had planned to use the name Seza for some of its stores. La Senza operated 293 stores at press time.

Plazacorp

Plazacorp Retail Properties bought the 118,700-square-foot 201 Chain Lake Drive strip center, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from Pacrim Developments, for C$14.5 million. Fredericton, New Brunswick-based Plazacorp also sold a 50 percent interest in three centers located in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec respectively to Retrocom Mid-Market real estate investment trust for C$15.8 million.

Sony

Sony has opened a 2,396-square-foot store at Cadillac Fairview’s Pacific Centre mall in Vancouver, British Columbia. The electronics giant has about 70 stores in Canada.
