ICSC INTRODUCES OPEN-AIR COMMITTEE

ICSC has rolled out a new committee to promote the interests of open-air retail property owners.

The Committee on Open-Air Centers, which kicked off in January, replaces the former Small Centers Committee, which had been in place since 1985.

Essentially, the committee is shedding its diminutive name and focus and bringing developers of centers other than enclosed malls under its umbrella.

“The intent was to be more inclusive,” said Michael E. McCarty, CLS, president of the community center division of Simon Property Group, Indianapolis, who will serve as the committee’s co-chairman. “We see lots of shopping center developers out there looking for direction, and who can be served with the knowledge that this committee can impart.”

The new committee’s purpose is threefold, said Brad Hutensky, president of Hartford, Conn.-based The Hutensky Group, also co-chairman of the committee: to organize conferences on open-air centers, to ensure that issues affecting such centers are raised at conferences and to publicize those issues in the media.
