SHOPPING CENTER PROFESSIONALS GAIN ICSC ACCREDITATION

Some 148 people have received accreditation in various areas of expertise in the shopping center industry this year, following examinations administered by ICSC in four U.S. cities — Chicago, Las Vegas, New York and San Diego — as well as in Brussels, Belgium; Caracas, Venezuela; Dubai, UAE; and Mexico City.

The categories are: Certified Leasing Specialist (CLS); Certified Marketing Director (CMD); Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM); Senior Certified Marketing Director (SCMD); Senior Certified Shopping Center Manager (SCSM); Accredited Shopping Center Manager (ASM); and Accredited Marketing Director (AMD).

The most sought-after certification this year was the CSM, which attracted 78 examinees. There are now a total 3,014 people with this title, more than hold any other title. In contrast, just six took the AMD test. The latter also appears to be the most difficult of the examinations — just one of these six passed. Little wonder, then, that it remains an exclusive group, with a total of just 30 people holding the title. The course with the highest pass rate this year was the ASM — five of the six who took it, passed, and there are now 68 people in the industry who possess this qualification. Other pass rates were 65.7 percent for the CLS exam, bringing the total number of people holding the title to 605; 80 percent for the CMD, with a total of 1,993 having this designation industrywide; and 73.1 percent for the CSM.
