SEPHORA OPENS CALIFORNIA STORES

Sephora opened three stores in California last month, bringing its total number of units there to 24. The cosmetics chain, which is owned by LVMH Möet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, now has 85 stores in the United States and several more in Europe. Two of the new California stores opened in the Los Angeles area — at Manhattan Village Shopping Center, Manhattan Beach; and Beverly Center, Beverly Hills. The third opened in the open-air Vintage Oaks, Novato, Calif., about 30 miles north of San Francisco. Sephora turned a profit last year (its first in a number of years) on same-store sales that rose nearly 20 percent.
