The Macerich Co. hired Michaela A. Marrafino, SCMD, as regional vice president of strategic marketing programs. Marrafino joins Macerich from Forest City Enterprises, where she was a regional marketing director, based at the 993,000-square-foot South Bay Galleria, Redondo Beach, Calif. The company also promoted Tina Sigman, CMD, to vice president of marketing for its northern California/Pacific Northwest region. Sigman joined the company in 2001, as marketing manager at the 1.1 million-square-foot Arden Fair Mall. She will be based there in her new position.

Taubman Centers appointed David T. Weinert senior vice president of leasing. Weinert succeeds Courtney Lord, CLS, who will be providing Taubman with consulting services from July through 2005. Weinert joined the Taubman leasing department in 1986. In 1992 he was named vice president and headed leasing for the company’s Western region, based in San Francisco. He returned to the company’s Bloomfield Hills, Mich., headquarters as group vice president of leasing in 2001.

Urban Retail Properties, Chicago, hired P. Martin Yates as president of leasing. Yates was a senior partner at Los Angeles-based Blatteis Realty Co., Chicago.

The Rouse Co. named Donna M. Sills director of corporate compliance in addition to her title as vice president. Sills joined Rouse in 1988 and most recently was the firm’s vice president and associate general counsel.

Matt Carter joined Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties as marketing manager. Carter was a senior account executive at Zehnder Communications, an advertising agency in New Orleans, and a marketing manager in the New Orleans regional office of the American Heart Association.

Schostak Bros. & Co., Southfield, Mich., promoted Cindy Ciura, SCMD, to senior marketing vice president. Ciura was vice president of corporate marketing at the brokerage firm. Patrick K. Windley joined the company as vice president and director of acquisitions. Windley worked for Grubb & Ellis/Adena Realty Advisors, where he was a founding principal.

Howard Sipzner, CFO of Equity One, a North Miami Beach, Fla., community and neighborhood shopping center developer, added the title of executive vice president. The firm also named David W. Briggs vice president and treasurer in addition to his duties as chief accounting officer.

John M. Belk resigned as chairman and CEO of Charlotte, N.C.-based Belk Inc. The son of founder William Henry Belk, he joined the company in 1945 when he began working in the Belk store in Charlotte. He has been chairman and CEO since 1981. Thomas M. Belk Jr., his nephew, will succeed him in both offices. Thomas was president of store divisions, human resources, real estate and visual presentation. H.W. McKay Belk was named president and chief merchandising officer. Johnny Belk, formerly president of finance, systems and operations, was named president and COO.

James H. Hagan resigned from Dollar General. He joined the company as CFO and executive vice president in March 2001.

FRCH Design Worldwide, Cincinnati, an architectural and design firm, appointed Peggy Kennedy vice president of marketing. She was an independent consultant.

Alina Matas joined Terranova Corp., a Miami commercial real estate advisory firm, as director of research. Matas was a real estate journalist for the Daily Business Review, Miami.

W. Scott Fay and Randall H. Stone joined Carter & Burgess as program manager and group manager, respectively, in the firm’s Fort Worth, Texas, retail and distribution division. Fay was an assistant director and regional manager of projects at Casco Corp., a Costa Mesa, Calif.-based architectural and engineering consulting firm. Stone was vice president and co-office director in Dallas for Baltimore-based RTKL Associates.

Deborah Schindler joined CLC Associates, a Denver-based real estate planning and design services firm, as director of marketing. Schindler was an independent marketing consultant.

Jane Smalley joined the Baldwin Park Development Co., Orlando, Fla., as director of communications for Baldwin Park, the firm’s mixed-use project. She was director of marketing and communications at Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co.

MulvannyG2 Architecture, Bellevue, Wash., hired André Bellerjeau as manager of business development. Bellerjeau was managing director at Security By Design, a San Francisco-based security consulting firm. MulvannyG2 also hired Michael Osburn as design manager to oversee corporate management and operations. Osburn continues to run Ops+, the Tucson, Ariz.-based sports architecture and planning firm he founded.

Shop America Alliance, a marketing cooperative that promotes shopping and tourism, honored Carolyn Feimster, SCMD, president of CJF Marketing International, with its Shopping Tourism Person of the Year award. The prize was handed out at the seventh annual Shop America Tourism Conference, held in San Diego in January.

Urdang & Associates, a Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based real estate investment management firm, promoted Mark Greco to partner and a member of its investment committee. Greco was managing senior vice president of asset management. Urdang also recruited the following: Scott Coopchik, as director of acquisitions (he was a senior vice president and director of development for Orix Real Estate Equities in New York City); Jayme Goldberg, as vice president of portfolio management (he was an analyst for General Motors Asset Management, New York City); David Kimble, as senior asset manager (he was vice president for real estate acquisitions and asset management for McKinney Properties, Pittsburgh); and Sarah Belmont, as an analyst. Belmont is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Donald I. Berger joined Latham & Watkins, Los Angeles, as a partner of its finance and real estate department. Berger was a partner at Morrison & Foerster, a Los Angeles law firm, and served as co-chair of its Real Estate Practice Group.

Matthew W. Gilbertson, joined RIM Architects, Honolulu, as a partner and principal. Gilbertson was a principal at Honolulu-based Architects Hawaii.

Peter Lynch was named president and COO of Babystyle, a Los Angeles maternity and baby clothes and accessories retailer. Lynch was vice president of worldwide operations at Warner Bros. Studio Stores. The company also hired Kathy Prost as chief merchandising officer. Before joining Babystyle, Prost was executive vice president of licensing at Cherokee.

Abercrombie & Fitch hired Susan J. Riley as senior vice president and CFO. Riley was CFO of the Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City.

Trammell Crow Co. promoted Elwood B. Coley to senior managing director of its national corporate services business. He was also appointed to its national operating committee. Coley joined Trammell Crow in 1992 and most recently led the company’s service business for Florida.

Chicos FAS, Fort Myers, Fla., promoted F. Michael Smith to vice president of real estate. Smith joined The White House, an affiliated company, in 1990, and most recently served as the company’s vice president of operations.

THF Realty, a St. Louis-based real estate developer, hired Stephanie Gurley as communications specialist. Gurley was tourism development manager at the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. promoted Patti Simigram to senior vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s apparel. Simigram was senior vice president of core merchandising for Lands’ End, which Sears bought in June 2002.

Pamela R. Wilson joined CB Richard Ellis Hawaii as vice president of asset services. Before joining the company, Wilson was vice president of the commercial division of Chaney, Brooks & Co., a commercial and residential real estate services firm, in Honolulu. CB Richard Ellis Hawaii also named Scott Crockford as vice president of retail services at its Maui office. Crockford was vice president of commercial property for Maui Land & Pineapple Co., where he oversaw management and development of various properties, including the 572,896-square-foot Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, Kahului. CB Richard Ellis Hawaii named Brenda Morey general manager of the 2100 Kalakaua and King Kalakaua Plaza retail complexes, both in Waikiki, and Kimo Watson Ambassador of Aloha for both properties. As an independent contractor, Morey was property manager for the Honu Group, the company that developed the two projects.

Eugenia D. Boukidis joined Robert K. Futterman & Associates, New York City, as an associate director. Before joining RKF, Boukidis was an executive real estate agent for Dwelling Quests, a New York City-based real estate brokerage firm.

BSW International, a Tulsa, Okla.-based architecture and engineering firm, promoted Jeffrey A. Stephens to CEO. Stephens was president and COO. He will maintain his position as president. BSW also appointed the following to the post of vice president and managing director at various regional offices: Danielle Williams was promoted to business development representative; Doug Heinrichs was appointed vice president and managing director for the firm’s Tulsa, Okla., office; Danni F. Anstett has been assigned operations in Tampa, Fla.; David Bird is running the Irvine, Calif., office; and Kendall Wilcox is in charge of the Rogers, Ark., office.

Weitz Co., Phoenix, promoted Mike Bontrager to president of the Southwest business unit. Bontrager was vice president and construction manager at Weitz Co., which he joined in 1983.

Grubb & Ellis Co. added Joseph DosReis, Patrick Ronan and Kye Huff to the investment brokerage team in its Sacramento, Calif., office. All three were members of CB Richard Ellis’ Palmer Investment Brokerage Team. The company also hired Max Lummis as a commercial real estate adviser for its Bonita Springs, Fla., office. Lummis was COO of Koplar Enterprises, St. Louis.

Neil Tessier joined CEI Engineering Associates, Bentonville, Ark., as regional manager of its new Minneapolis office. Tessier was the civil engineering department manager for Larson Engineering, also in Minneapolis.

Waupun, Wis.-based Westra Construction promoted Bonnie Berkoben to branch controller of the eastern regional office in Harrisburg, Pa, from assistant branch controller.

Finard & Co., Burlington, Mass. has hired Judith A. Waugh and Nicholas M. Herz as financial analyst and retail analyst, respectively. Waugh was an assistant asset manager at Northland Investment Corp., Newton, Mass. Herz was an acquisitions analyst at Wellesley Advisors, Framingham, Mass.

BL Cos., Meriden, Conn., named Guy LaBella project manager of its environmental sciences group. Before joining BL Cos., LaBella was manager of the environmental engineering department at EnviroScience Consultants, Newington, Conn.

Empire Commercial Real Estate, Ontario, Calif., promoted Darrin Olson to senior project director and Scott Grady to project director. Olson oversaw development for the firm in the Southwest. Grady was an analyst.

Perkowitz + Ruth Architects opened an office in Portland, Ore., and hired Sake H. Reindersma, as director of the Northwest region. Reindersma was a vice president at MulvannyG2 Architecture and oversaw the firm’s Portland office.

Coreland Cos. recruited Tracey Zimmerman as manager of public affairs. Zimmerman was marketing director and property manager at Hopkins Real Estate Group, Newport Beach, Calif.

BHDP Architecture, Cincinnati, named three associates: Christopher Hagan, Cynthia Jackson and George Kemper. Hagan is an intern architect, working primarily on retail projects, Jackson serves as marketing manager, and Kemper is project architect and manager for several developments.

Quarella, Woodbridge, Ontario, a division of Stone Marketing & Design Services, also of Woodbridge, promoted Karen E. Johnson to manager of retail and shopping center new business development. Johnson was a manager for the company’s mid-U.S. region.

Callison Architecture, Seattle, promoted eight senior staff members to associate principal. They are: Helen Brown, Howard Fitzpatrick, Susan Freeman, Mark Henderson, John Jex, Michael C. Lee, Song Pak and William Shen. All were associates and design professionals.

The Durrant Group, Dubuque, Iowa, promoted Thomas F. Flickinger to head of its prime engineering division. Flickinger was managing principal of Durrant’s Madison, Wis., office.

KKE Architects, Minneapolis, promoted Bill Beuapre to senior associate.

National Tenant Construction appointed Robert Lakeman president. Lakeman was vice president of business development when he joined National Tenant, a Chesapeake, Va., retail contractor, in 2000.

Glendale (Calif.) Galleria honored Jose R. Quintanar, co-founder and co-executive director of We Care for Youth. Glendale Galleria has been a business partner with We Care for Youth since 1991, and has offered the organization free retail space for Bliss Unlimited, a youth-run holiday store. Quintanar is also a 2003 Jefferson Award recipient. The award is given to 57 community leaders across the country by the American Institute for Public Service.

Rockwood Realty, New York City, appointed Brad Boersma a Chicago-based associate. Boersma was an analyst at the Lehman Bros. global real estate group. Sophie Dagenais joined the company as general counsel, chief administrative officer and a member of the management committee. Dagenais was a partner in the finance, real estate and public finance departments at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, a Philadelphia-based law firm.

ShoreBank, a Chicago-based community banking and environmental banking corporation, added Linda Jacobsen, Ted Grunebaum and Darice Wright to its MetroEdge division, a consulting and market research business providing information on urban markets. Jacobsen, the new CEO of MetroEdge, was senior vice president of Strategic Resources at San Diego-based Claritas. Grunebaum, retail sector director, worked in the Chicago office of McLean, Va.-based Bearing Point. Wright, director of financial services, was the executive director of the Chicago-based LaSalle Street Project.

The board of Realty Resources, a national network of independent real estate brokerage firms, elected Michael R. Wesley its 2004-2005 chairman. Wesley has been an executive board member for the past four years. A founding principal of Edgemark Commercial Real Estate Services, Oak Brook, Ill., Wesley currently serves as managing principal and leads all the activities of the Chicago office.

Party City promoted John Gaffney to president of all 10 Party City stores in upstate New York and Erie, Pa.

South Lake Financial, Pasadena, Calif., appointed David B. Farkas managing director of South Lake Commercial Capital, its commercial lending arm. Farkas was vice president of marketing at Pacific Crest Bank, Costa Mesa, Calif.

Starbucks Coffee Co. named Martin Coles president of Starbucks Coffee International. Coles was president and CEO of the Reebok Brands for Reebok International.

MC Genova joined Continuum Lakewood Development Co., Lakewood, Colo., as marketing manager of its Belmar project. Genova was assistant general manager of the 350,000-square-foot Denver Pavilions.

Perrine & Wheeler appointed David C. Turner a regional partner. He will be responsible for the Norfolk, Va.-based company’s New York City office, where he will assemble an acquisitions team. Turner served as vice president of the Lehman Bros. global real estate group, where he concentrated on shopping center acquisitions.

Keith A. Anderson was promoted to CEO at Federal Building Services, a Chicago-based company that provides maintenance and housekeeping services for shopping centers, retailers and commercial buildings nationwide. Anderson was executive vice president of business development. Anderson succeeds Stephen Culp, who becomes chairman.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Crosland recruited Mike Wiggins as senior vice president of the retail division. Wiggins was vice president of retail development at Crescent Resources, Charlotte, a subsidiary of Duke Energy.

David Horenstein joined Combined Properties, Malden, Mass., as director of leasing and development. Horenstein was a senior manager of investments for Regency Centers, Jacksonville, Fla.

Sonnenblick-Eichner Co., Los Angeles, named Nicholas Speno an associate. Speno, who was a senior investment analyst for Churchill Mortgage Corp., Los Angeles, will be responsible for financial analysis.

Tentoe, Pleasanton, Calif., named Adam Levin, CEO and chairman of Cleveland-based Levin Consulting, to its board of directors.

Westra Construction, Waupun, Wis., promoted Benjamin D. Westra to project manager. Westra was lead estimator for the Harrisburg, Pa., regional office.

 

IN MEMORIAM

Robert K. Goehle, vice president of real estate for TJX Cos., died March 10, following an auto accident. He was 43. Before joining TJX, he was a vice president of real estate at Staples. Goehle is survived by his wife, Linda, and three sons.

Marshall Kramer, former senior vice president of Walker Parking Consultants, an Elgin, Ill.-based parking consulting firm, died in December. He was 61. Kramer, a member of ICSC, was active in the organization until shortly before he died. He was a member of the Program Committee for the December 2003 Centerbuild Conference, held in Scottsdale, Ariz. Kramer joined Walker Parking in 1979 and was responsible for national marketing and consulting to the real estate industry. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judith; two children and two grandsons.
