gTRENDS TO SELL HANDHELD COMPUTERS AT MALL KIOSKS

gTrends, which sells handheld computers and other palm-size devices, has entered into an agreement with PalmGear.com, a marketer of handheld products through the Web, to sell its products.

Grand Prairie, Texas-based gTrends, is seeking to operate carts and kiosks called Bytes To Go in enclosed malls and airports. It plans to sell the entire line of hardware, software and accessories that Arlington, Texas-based PalmGear.com presently sells through its Web site. Those products include Palm and PalmOS handheld devices, which are marketed by Santa Clara, Calif.-based Palm Inc.

gTrends began selling the Palm and PalmOS products in late March. It is also offering wireless communication services through major providers like Sprint PCS and Wireless WebConnect.

A relatively new company that was launched in November 2000, gTrends currently operates one Bytes To Go kiosk in the North East Mall in Hurst, Texas.

“Our plan, by the end of the year, is to have three or four carts and kiosks in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” said Zaid Al-Khaiyat, vice president of business development and CFO of gTrends.

At press time, company officials said they hoped to place a kiosk in the Parks Mall, Arlington, Texas, and said they were also considering locations in the Collin Creek and the new Willow Bend Malls, both in Plano, Texas. The company is also targeting the end of the year to open a kiosk in the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

“Bytes To Go’ locations will provide one-stop shopping for users of handheld devices,” said Maher Al-Khaiyat, chairman and chief technology officer of gTrends.

As for PalmGear.com, it is not affiliated in any way with Palm Inc., marketer of the Palm handheld products. PalmGear buys Palm’s products directly from them, and then sells them through its Web site, www.palmgear.com.
