MALAN, GRAND/SAKWA PLAN MIXED-USE PROJECT

Shopping center developer Malan Realty Investors, Bingham Farms, Mich., and Grand/Sakwa Acquisitions, Farmington Hills, Mich., have teamed up to redevelop as much as 90 acres of property in Michigan, up to 700,000 square feet of which will be retail space.

The redevelopment will be completed in two or three phases and should produce multistory buildings with residential and office-over-retail configurations.

The locale, in Farmington Hills, currently contains an old residential subdivision and old commercial buildings and is being upgraded to better reflect the upscale setting of Oakland County.

Phase 1 is expected to produce up to 370,000 square feet of retail space on the eastern portion of the property. Construction for that phase should begin this summer, and the opening is scheduled for spring 2002.
